This project, conceived by Hiyoli Togawa and focusing on the situation of children, consists of specially commissioned pieces by Toshio Hosokawa, Johanna Doderer, Gity Razaz, Märt-Matis Lill, Elliott Gyger, Michiru Oshima, Yuri Povolotsky, Kalevi Aho, Federico Gardella, Diana Rotaru, Ivan Buffa, Lu Wang and Alexej Gerassimez, interwoven with allemandes from the six cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Kalevi Aho has composed a double concerto for an extraordinary combination of solo instruments : Hiyoli Togawa (viola) and Alexej Gerassimez (percussion) will premiere the concerto for viola, percussion and chamber orchestra in Spring 2022 with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
Kalevi Aho dedicated the solo work for viola “Solo XII – In memoriam EJR” to Hiyoli Togawa. She premiered it in Lapland during the festival “Luosto Classics” and now it will be released on the next solo album of Kalevi Aho for the label BIS on the 2nd of July 2021.

Hiyoli Togawa’s new album “Songs of Solitude” was recorded for the label BIS. In 2020 Hiyoli Togawa made it her mission to capture the isolation that was globally dealt with during the pandemic and commissioned from 11 composers (e.g. Toshio Hosokawa, Kalevi Aho, Tigran Mansurian) solos for viola, especially for her project “Songs of Solitude”. These are interwoven with Bach’s sarabandes of the cello suites. The CD will be released on the 5th of March 2021.
“Romantic Viola Sonatas“ was released by Naxos in January 2018. The album includes two sonatas by George Onslow and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy as well as six nocturnes by Jan Kalivoda.

Hiyoli Togawa premiered Kalevi Aho’s work for viola solo – “Solo XII – In memoriam EJR” – in August 2017 and performed it once again as part of “Krypta”, a concert series of the Hamburg Camerata, in the crypt of the church St.Michaelis in February 2018.
Hiyoli Togawa and Alexej Gerassimez successfully premiered “DESERTS” – a duo piece for viola and percussion – by Ferran Cruxient at the music festival Heidelberger Frühling in March 2017.
